Progressive economies typically show the way forward for more conservative environments. Those that adjust to the circumstances thrive, while neighbors watch with envy.

When it comes to the rising blockchain economy, few countries have shown the rate of adoption on the level of United Arab Emirates, most notably the Emirate of Dubai. With the focus on Expo 2020, the government formed Smart Dubai office — in charge of implementing blockchain in all aspects of every day life. Blockchain and cryptocurrencies aren’t mentioned in the context of future implementation, they’re everyday terms.

From entering the country (identity protection), to automated visa and residence processing (document verification) and even paying the public transport with upcoming e-Dirham / emCash cryptocurrencies, the pace of blockchain adoption is unprecedented.

Keynote speech by Her Excellence Dr. Aisha Bint Buti Bin Bisher, Director General of Smart Dubai.

There are no better words to see the way of thinking about Smart Dubai than through the words of HE Dr. Aisha Bint Buti Bin Bisher, Director General of Smart Dubai:

Guided by the example of our nation’s leadership, we have learned to continually look to the horizon to start creating the future today. And while others were still debating the prospects of this new technology, we got to work. We are making Dubai the blockchain capital of the world, we have 20 proof-of-concept Blockchain projects in public sector and it’s only the beginning.

These 20 proof-of-concept projects are in the process or have already selected startups and publicly listed companies, such as IBM, Microsoft, Consensys and others.

Dubai took the forward-thinking approach and broke ground on the bold Dubai Blockchain Strategy, and by supporting events such as the UNLOCK Blockchain Forum, we are building a platform to share our learnings and prepare Dubai, and the world, for the future of Blockchain.

Unlock Blockchain conference was organized by Al-Iktissad Wal-Aamal, an organization dedicated to proliferation of blockchain technology in Gulf Area, which they try to explain the best in this simple, yet effective video:

At Datum, we welcome the challenge of protecting personal and corporate identity, as we believe that every data creator needs to be the owner of his or her own data. During the conference and after, we established a number of relationships, which we will be talking about in the coming weeks. For us, the key is how to ensure appropriate user remuneration. If your data is sold, you should be compensated for it.

Roger Haenni, CEO of Datum talks to attendees.

We are happy to see a number of large public corporations showing interest in compensating people for consensual sharing of their own data, as well as protecting user identities.

Download the app or use the webapp and allow us to contact you through the email — the dawn of user compensation is ahead of us. Check out the Datum’s Dashboard and see how many users received DAT’s for their participation on our alpha network.

Stay tuned.
